Well, Hi!
These be the random mutterings of Julie Doornbos. You can find me around other parts of the internets below:
- Figure drawing doodlies and nudies.
- annnnd… once I revamp the gallery site, you can see me there too. Eventually. Heh.
Like most artists, I didn’t do much more than draw and paint as a kid. This has left me wholly uncoordinated and absolutely worthless in a game of dodgeball. I was the only ballerina in my class of 9 year old wanna-bees who would “en derrière” when I was supposed to “en devant”.
As an adult I’m often attacked by hostile household objects. Like coffee tables. Also lamps. Sometimes walls, depending on how close they are to doors.
Mostly I walk around wearing a helmet and encased in bubble wrap. Unless I’m painting, that is.
For the past few years I’ve been creating in a variety of mediums. Then, in September of 2010, I decided to give my acrylics to my daughter and temporarily retire the paintbrushes.
I took off for a year to get serious about my work. Since then I’ve buckled down and have been learning to draw and (slowly) work with oils.
I honestly thought I would need to be patient with this process, but I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun creating since I was a kid making up my own dance moves in ballet class.
I love this life.
